Galatians 5:1-"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery."

Yesterday, July 4, 2026, the United States of America celebrated its 250 year anniversay of our independence from England. Independence from the rule of another country. The Independence to be our own nation. Freedom to govern and live in a society which values men and women's rights to life, liberty and the persuit of happiness. 

We celebrate this time because of the freedoms we have that other nations do not. I sometimes take for granted the freedoms that I enjoy such as going to church without the fear of death. Worshipping and having fellowship with other believers knowing I will not be persecuted. Sharing my faith without being taken to jail. Freedom to love God and enjoy His blessings. 

Almost 2000 years ago we gained another freedom because of Christ's death and resurrection. This freedom wasn't from another nation or group of people. This freedom was the freedom from the rule of sin in our lives. You see before Christ we were enslaved by the power of sin and death in our lives. We had no choice but to live a life of bondage. Bondage to the power of corruption, guilt, fear, shame and death. We had no way out of this horrible life.

Then Jesus came on the scene and everything changed. He lived a perfect life and took on the enemy of death, hell and the grave. We gained our freedom the moment the stone was rolled away and Jesus came out of that tomb. He destoyed the powers of the devil and took the keys to unlock the chains of death and hopelessness that had enslaved us. Jesus gave us freedom to experience life and that life more abundantly. (John 10:10)

You may be asking yourself, "How can I experience this freedom?" You experience this freedom by believing Jesus is Lord. Believing He took the punishment for your sins on the cross. Asking for His forgiveness and committing your life to Him. Jesus is the one who paid the price for your sins. You just receive Him and He takes care of the rest. 

Let today be a day you celebrate the freedom that only Christ can give. The freedom to enjoy all the life God has promised you through His son, Jesus Christ.

Prayer-Dear Lord, Today I realize that you have given me freedom over my slavery to sin. I accept you today as my Lord and Savior. Forgive me of my sins and help me to live for you from this day forward. In Jesus' Holy Name, Amen!
