"and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn."
Have you ever missed a golden opportunity to make a historical difference? Ever looked back and regretted not taking advantage of a once in a lifetime decision? I have but I don't think it was as significant as the Innkeeper on the night our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ was born.
I can imagine the Innkeeper seeing a pregnant teenager and her husband Joseph and thinking to himself, "I don't need to give up a room for them, they can have their baby in the barn. Sorry no room. WIsh you all the best" I wonder what he thought when we saw shepherds and wisemen coming for a visit. Bringing expensive gifts and listening to how they came to hear about the baby. Not a wise marketing move for this business owner.
What about me? How many times has Jesus come to my door and asked for some time to fellowship and because of my busy schedule I shoved him to the barn? Jesus is standing at our door and knocking (Rev. 3:20). His desire is to come in and hang out with us. He gets excited spending quality time with us. He came to this earth to share his life with us and to share our lives with him.
This Christmas let's make sure we invite Jesus in to our lives and not banish him to the barn. He longs to spend time with us and desires for us to get to know him.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to always welcome you into my life. I know during this Holiday season we can get busy and distracted from what is eternally important. Give me the wisdom to always make room for you in my daily life. I don't ever want to look back and regret the decision to push you to the barn. In your name I pray. Amen!
