John 4:4-"Now he had to go through Samaria."
In John 4: 1-38 we find the familiar story of Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well. This is one of my favorite stores in all the bible. Why, because it shows the heart that Jesus had for all people even the Samaritans.
In the verse above we see the urgency of Jesus wanting to go through Samaria. "He had to go." Why, in the TV series, The Chosen, we see Jesus sitting at the well waiting for the woman. This was something I never knew. I thought the woman was already at the well and Jesus stumbled onto her. This scene revealed to me that Jesus is always waiting for us to have an encounter with Him. No matter what we are going through, Jesus is waiting on us to bring it to Him. He desires to have a life changing encounter with us no matter what we've done or who we've hurt.
Jesus sought after this woman because she was hurting, lonely, confussed and hopeless. By her coming to the well at noon we learn that she was an outcast of her community. She needed to be transformed and set free but had no idea how to do it. Therefore, Jesus didn't wait on her to get her act together, He went to be with her. His desire was to show her agape love. To help her know that she is seen and important.
We see the end result of this encounter in verse 28, "Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, "Come and see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Christ?" No longer was she ashamed to be around the towns people. No longer fearful of what others might say about her. No longer worried about her past and the guilt she endured. Jesus had transformed her from being known as an adulterer to being the first evangelist to the city of Samaria.
Do you need to have an encounter with Jesus that can change the shame and guilt of your past? Do you need the freedom to live a victorious life? Jesus is waiting for you at the well of living water. He has a greater purpose for your life than you thought possible. Ephesians 3:20-21-"Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen."
Can you imagine this kind of life? Do you need Jesus to do something in you that is, "Immeasurably more" then you could think or imagine? Come to Jesus and receive the transformed life He has planned for you.
Prayer: Lord, I need you. I need you to transform my life into something beautiful. I need the living water you promised so my thirst can be quinched by your presence. Thank you for waiting on me to come and receive your mercy, love and forgiveness. In Jesus' Name, Amen!
