Matthew 14:28-29-"Lord, if it is you,' Peter replied, 'tell me to come to you on the water.' 'Come,' He said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus."
This is one of my favorite stories in the bible. Peter walking on the water. I have often wondered why Peter was compeled to get out of the boat and go to Jesus? What was Peter thinking at the time? Why didn't he just wait for Jesus to come to him and get in the boat?
I think it might have been that Peter was an adventurer and was lured by the danger and excitement of doing something he had never done before. Maybe Peter just wanted to be where Jesus was. It could be, Peter knew the ship was sinking and it was more dangerous to stay then to jump.
Living for the Lord is always an adventure. He will lead us into situations that are designed to test our faith and trust in Him. Jesus often calls us to come to be with Him then to stay where we are even when the jouney may be difficult.
Peter didn't just see Jesus and jump out of the boat. He asked Jesus to invite him to come and be with Him. I think that Peter was not just walking on H20, I beleive he was walking on "C.O.M.E." Trusting in God's word not only will build our faith but also build our confidence in the one who spoke the Word. (Romans 10:17)
So, today are you willing to step out of your boat to be where Jesus is and working? Are your trusting in His word to hold you up? Know you can trust God and walk on the stormy waters of your life.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for your word. Help me to put my trust and faith in your scriptures. Give me the courage to come to you when the storms of life are surrounding me. You are the one I can trust to get me to the other side. In Jesus' name, Amen!
